7-nitroindazole is a specific inhibitor for the neuronal nitric oxide synthase (NOS). Nitric oxide is a key player in the hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and inhibitors of nitric oxide have been observed to effect learning and memory in mice. Studies show that it has the ability to weaken MPTP neurotoxictiy in mice and protect against methamphetamine-induced neurotoxicity in vivo.
