Canavanine sulfate is the sulfate preparation of L-canavanine, a non-protein amino acid with structural analogy to L-arginine. L-canavanine is reported to be a selective inhibitor of iNOS (inducible nitric oxide synthase) owing to its structural mimicry of the native iNOS substrate L-arginine.
