Troleandomycin is a macrolide antibiotic. The compound is a stronger inhibitor of cytochrome P450 (P450 or CYP)-dependent drug oxidation) when compared to Roxithromycin (sc-205845). Cytochrome P450 has been shown to be involved in oxidizing N omega-hydroxy-L-arginine through NADPH and O2 to nitric oxide and citrulline. Research shows that Troleandomycin inhibits the release of nitric oxide from Glycerol trinitrate (GTN). Troleandomycin has been used in multiple asthma studies.
