S-Ethylisothiourea strongly competes with L-arginine to inhibit inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). It has been observed to specifically inhibit iNOS activity in J774 mouse macrophages and possesses the potential to be an inflammatory and autoimmune disease therapeutic. This product has also shown to reduce endogenous ISGylation and synthetic derivatives of S-Ethylisothiourea have possible hypertensive effects. In studies with rabbits, this product significantly enhanced histamine-evoked contractions of endotoxemic pulmonary and mesenteric vessels.
