D-NG-Nitroarginine Methyl Ester HCl (D-NAME) is the inactive stereoisomer of L-NAME (L-NG-Nitroarginine Methyl Ester HCl, sc-200333), itself a methyl ester derivative of the NOS (nitric oxide synthase) inhibitor L-NNA (N G-Nitro-L-arginine, sc-3570). L-NAME is hydrolyzed to L-NNA which then competes with L-arginine at the NOS arginine-binding site, blocking the arginine-dependent generation of NO by the enzyme. D-NAME is widely employed as a negative control for NOS inhibition studies with L-NAME.
